SYNOPSIS

In the French mountains in the 1970s, a robbery gone wrong plunges its protagonists into the heart of a mysterious cult. As they uncover its unexpected origins, the line between reality, madness, and paganism begins to blur… with consequences that will drive you out of your mind, literally!

Cadavre is a narrative point-and-click adventure game spanning multiple time periods and featuring several playable protagonists in a world where investigation, occult intrigue, and folk horror intertwine.

ABOUT THE GAME

Cadavre is the result of a collaboration between two French 2D illustrators and animators, Mathieu Ratier and Matthieu Gueritte. Their first project as Fantomatwork, begun in 2023, was conceived around the principle of the Exquisite Corpse (Cadavre Exquis in French), a creative method developed by the Surrealist movement in the 1920s. Each creator independently wrote and developed a part of the project without knowing what the other was working on. As the project grew, the focus shifted towards bringing these separate elements together into a coherent narrative and artistic vision, ultimately becoming Cadavre. The artworks, development, and music are entirely created by Fantomatwork.

No generative AI was used at any stage of the project.

Cadavre is an adventure game defined by its distinctive visual and narrative approach. Its minimalist pixel art is built around a deliberately limited color palette, while its fragmented narrative unfolds across multiple time periods. Players take on the roles of several protagonists, each experiencing different parts of the story. Although these events take place at different points in time, their individual narratives gradually converge, ultimately leading to a single point where all the threads of the story come together.

Cadavre is planned for a 2027 commercial release on Steam and itch.io.

Fantomatwork is a creative duo and a lifelong passion project born from a shared love of video games. Both creators have built their careers in the world of advertising and visual storytelling, working across a wide range of projects including commercial films, short films, animated music videos, and feature films.

Cadavre is their first commercial release.
